Toyota Motor unveiled its latest AI-enhanced driver-assistance technology, aiming to boost traffic safety, during a demonstration on October 20. This innovative system was showcased at a research center in central Japan, developed in partnership with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (NTT), which is tasked with creating the essential communication infrastructure.

During the demonstration, a vehicle equipped with this system entered a highway, where the AI evaluated the positions and speeds of nearby cars. The system gathered information via cameras and sensors set up along the road. This data was processed and relayed to the car’s onboard system, which automatically adjusted speed and steering to ensure safe navigation.

Toyota is also working on additional features, such as alerts for drivers about potential hazards like pedestrians unexpectedly crossing the road. The company plans to integrate these advanced systems into its vehicles by around 2028, marking a significant step towards enhancing driving safety.

In related developments, reports suggest that Toyota is exploring the possibility of manufacturing electric minicars in the UK. This would take place at the same site where the Toyota Corolla is currently produced, potentially diversifying their production capabilities and expanding their electric vehicle offerings.
