BCC Invest has raised its fair value estimate for KazMunayGas to roughly $35 a share after reviewing the state oil company’s first-quarter results, telling clients the stock now merits a buy call. At the current market price near $31, the broker sees roughly a $4 gain, or about one-seventh upside.

The new target represents an increase of just over one-tenth from BCC Invest’s April forecast, the firm said, prompting the upgraded recommendation. The broker’s move comes even as KMG reported a weaker quarterly profit, and the stock has already ticked higher in recent trading.

On the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange on June 13, KMG shares climbed about 3 percent. The rise is part of a multi-session advance that began on June 9, leaving the stock up roughly eight percent over that span. Traders and analysts linked the broader rise in oil to heightened geopolitical tensions after an Israeli strike on Iranian territory early Friday, which lifted crude prices worldwide.

BCC Invest acknowledged that KMG’s net income fell by a bit more than one-third in the first quarter, a drop it attributed to foreign-exchange losses and lower financial receipts. Yet the broker pointed to steady output and processing volumes in oil and gas operations as justification for a higher valuation despite the profit slump.

“A stable production profile and predictable refining throughput reduce the near-term earnings volatility investors worry about,” said a hypothetical Astana-based energy strategist, adding that strong oil prices could reinforce the case for the stock. But the analyst warned that currency swings and financial income remain headwinds to watch.

According to KASE records, the bulk of KMG is held by state-related entities: Samruk-Kazyna controls about 67.42 percent, the finance ministry 20 percent and the National Bank nearly 9.58 percent, leaving a small portion available to public shareholders. For retail investors, the broker’s upgrade offers a clear signal, though it comes with the usual caveats tied to commodity markets and exchange-rate moves.
