A woman, referred to as Zora, is appealing to Elon Musk to eliminate online content on X that includes images of her past abuse. Over two decades ago, she suffered abuse at the hands of a relative, who was subsequently imprisoned. Yet, distressingly, images of that time continue to be shared online.
"It's not right that my suffering is treated like a product," Zora expressed in an interview. She emphasized that those distributing these images are contributing to the offense. Despite efforts from activists and groups like Anonymous to report such content, new posts persistently emerge.
X, formerly known as Twitter, claims to have a strict policy against child exploitation material and collaborates with U.S. law enforcement. Yet, critics argue that the platform and others in the tech industry fall short in their response.
In the previous year, tech firms reported over 20 million instances of child exploitation imagery to the U.S. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. This highlights the vast scale of the issue.
Zora has also faced harassment from individuals who uncovered her identity, adding to her trauma. Meanwhile, Telegram reported to the BBC that it had removed more than 565,000 groups connected to child abuse just this year, showing the ongoing battle against such content.
